Rest unto Your Souls - Per G. Malm

This compact talk got right to the point using the quotation from President Joseph F. Smith.  "To my mind, it means entering into the knowledge and love of God, having faith in his purpose and in his plan, to such an extent that we know we are right, and that we are not hunting for something else, we are not disturbed by every wind of doctrine, or by the cunning and craftiness of men who lie in wait to deceive.  We know of the doctrine that it is of God, and we do not ask any questions of anybody about it; they are welcome to their opinions, to their ideas and to their vagaries.  The man who has reached that degree of faith in God that all doubt and fear have been cast from him, he has entered into "Gods" rest."
Making it easy to see and understand, if our desire is to have the rest while we live, here are the points to ponder:

  • Have faith in his purpose and in his plan.
  • We are not hunting for something else.
  • We are not disturbed by every wind of doctrine.
  • We are not taken in by the cunning and craftiness of men.  We realize they are lying in wait to deceive.
  • We know of the doctrine that it is of God.
  • We do not ask questions of anybody about it.
  • Others we tolerate and welcome them to have their opinions, ideas and vagaries.
Following this we will have entered into "God's" rest.  We don't turn away from the light.
He mentions a "helpful habit" to lift our vision daily, especially if we tend to procrastinate the good we should pursue now.  The simple daily things will have a long-lasting impact on our feeling of peace.

  1. His talk to me was about becoming firm from the inside out. He used a story of a tree hollow in Sweden explaining that a weakening trunk does not happen over night! We are not to waste the days of our probation. How we choose to act and react either builds us up or tears us down. I loved the story of the grandmother who sent a child to gather eggs and when the child brought them back they were mostly broken. A neighbor lady said that the grandmother should punish the child but the grandmother said that won't make the eggs whole again, we will make some pancakes from the remains and enjoy them together.
